Letter from Mark Van Hoesen who is managing our 1st Annual Blood Drive on November 29
As a lifelong blood donor, I was disappointed at the WBV community blood drive held this past August at the Lakes Rec Center, when I was only the 4th donor by 10am, and only 15 donations were received all day.  That got my creative thinking going, and I knew we had a lot of folks that would be happy to donate if we could get the word out.
After consulting with our Pickleball Club board and spending some time with Katrina Eaton, the Senior Donor Recruit Rep at United Blood Services, I am proud to announce our first annual (hopefully) WBV Pickleball Club co-sponsored Blood Drive!  The date is: Tuesday, November the 29th from 9 am to 2 pm, in the ballroom at the Vistas Rec Center.  Play some Pickleball, then donate!
The board felt like it would be a good gesture to reach out to the Tennis Club and ask them to co-sponsor the drive with us.  I have done that, and they are more than willing to participate.  To take it a step further, I have also reached out to the WBV Veterans Support Group, and they have also pledged to participate and support the Drive.
With these three groups on board, we should easily make our goal of 55 donations, and hopefully more. That would be a good problem for United Blood Services to have!  The Pickleball Club at Arizona Traditions has been sponsoring a drive annually for several years and have been very successful.  I hope we can start a tradition here at Westbrook Village and maybe even get to a Semi-Annual status.
I have enclosed a Web Link that will take you directly to the website that will give you all of the information you will need and answer most of your questions.  www.bloodhero.com  (sponsor code Westbrook Village). PLEASE PRE-REGISTER.  You will be able to register and schedule your appointment on the website.  I can also help with that, so please feel free to email, text or call me.  United Blood Services now has a Fast Track Health History that you can fill out online the day of the blood drive prior to your appointment.  Nice and easy and will save you some time.
A single blood donation can help as many as 3 people. It is estimated that every 2 seconds someone in the United States needs a blood transfusion.  Every donation counts, you never know but your donation could literally save someone’s life.  Just to give you an idea, Katrina Eaton’s 8-month-old daughter has been in the hospital for some time, hopefully out this week, and she has needed 3 units of blood so far. You just never know who you will help!
As a bonus, anyone donating on the 29th will receive a voucher for a ticket to the Phoenix Symphony!  Who’s gonna’ volunteer to drive the bus?
Thank you so much for your consideration and participation.  I am looking forward to a VERY successful blood drive.  See you on the courts and at the ballroom on the 29th!

Lets all get on board with this blood drive and show that Pickleball Cares!

See you on the courts!
