Presidents Letter – February 3, 2016

Hello [First],

GREAT Town Hall Meeting results: About 60 members showed up last Thursday to participate in our first Town Hall Meeting ever. About 20 questions were emailed to the Club prior to the meeting and several were brought up at the meeting, many concerning 2015 expenditures. Compliments were given to Rob Dolan for his straightforward financial presentation, to Maureen Dooling for organizing the Town Hall meeting, to Diane Durnell for her party planning, Tim Bommer for his work reviewing the Bylaws, and Tom Ossell for his overview of Board functions. Members appreciated the opportunity to discuss Club issues with the Board and several commented during the meeting that the Board is doing a fine job, did not need micro-managing and should be trusted to make decisions for the Club. The issue of posting a list of names of those members who had not renewed their dues by January 31 was discussed and the majority of those present felt it was appropriate.

The Pickleball Club is preparing to make a big showing at the Jan Petre Band dance to be held on Friday, Feb. 5 at 6:30 at the Lakes Rec. Center, so contact Diane Durnell social@wbvpicklballclub.org … and let her know you will be there. Cost is a measly $3 for an evening of live music. Dancing is optional but we think you won’t be able to resist. Bring your favorite drink and snacks.

VALENTINES DAY FUN TOURNAMENT IS COMING! Ken Frenzel has asked that we remind our Members to sign up for our tournament and party on Sunday, Feb. 14. Sign up online… Click here …no cost for this fun-filled afternoon. Invited guests are welcome, but we need to know playing ability at signup. We will be honoring February birthdays at the tournament, so let Diane Durnell know asap if you have a February birthday… social@wbvpicklballclub.org

DUES TIME - The Club website is now accepting dues payments on line for 2016.  Thanks to everyone who paid their dues in full on the website by the end of January…you are eligible for a drawing to be held at Valentines Day Tournament February 14 for a new ZEN paddle. You do not have to be present to win, but come on by and join the party.  If you are one of the 96 who have not yet paid, Click here Memberships and pay on line..its fast, easy and painless…..just ask any of the 217 who have already used it.  If you do not use the internet for financial transactions…that’s ok. we will accept C-A-S-H or check…..just bring it with you next time you play and give it to one of our volunteers. We will be posting a list of those who have not paid by 1-31-16… Regrettably, access to Club facilities and Play times will be denied after January 31 for those who have not renewed until they finally get around to it. For those of you who are seasonal residents rest assured we will not excommunicate you prior to your return.

Donate your old paddles for newbies to use in drills. We are having more prospective and new members than loaner paddles….What a super way to put “old trusty” to good use. Place it in the box with your name and “DONATION” on a piece of paper attached. Thanks to Steve Russ for donating one of his well-used paddles this week for our newbies..he couldn’t wait to get rid of it..hope it works better for our newbies than it did for him….:)

Bylaws Review Committee has looked at the Bylaws and recommended a complete overhaul due to several deficiencies and inconsistencies. Your Board has accepted their recommendation and unanimously passed a resolution authorizing the Committee to proceed with its revision of the Bylaws. Once revised, the proposed Bylaws will be reviewed by the Board and will be submitted to the membership for approval.

General Membership Meeting will be held sometime in late February after I return to town. Stay tuned for date, place and time.

Facility Improvement Fund…Send your ideas for facility/equipment needs to president@wbvpickleballclub.org

Is there a Landscape Architect in our midst? The Board feels its vision for our Club can best be communicated with pictures, in addition to words. The HOA will be reconstructing the Stadium Courts sometime in the next 1-3 years and renderings will help sell our vision to the HOA Board.

FULL DISCLOSURE: the facility belongs to the HOA, not the PBC, and any proposed improvements must go through their submission, review, and approval process.  Just because we want something, and will pay for it does not mean they will approve it.

Check Your Membership Record Please.  This is the unique link to your membership record.  Click the link and be sure to opt in or out of the membership list which we will publish soon.  Remember to click your age category and playing level.

We are starting a Membership Pictures page on the website.  Liz will be taking pictures and posting them to the website.  If you want a different picture or want to add your picture send it to Liz.  You can see a nice "advertisement" for it here along with a link to get to the members' pictures page:  http://wbvpickleballclub.org/Pictures.html. The reason we are doing this is simply to help everyone recognize each other and" put a face with a nam"e.  This will help new and old timers alike.  It's always nice to be greeted by name don't you think?  However we respect your preference, so if you don't want your picture on our members' pictures page please let Liz know (e2lage@cox.net ) and she will remove it.

HOW CAN I HELP?

Steve Russ (787russ@gmail.com) could still use some help on morning of Feb. 14 manning a table at the Lakes Recreation Center for a new member recruitment event from 9:00 am-1:00 pm… Call or email him and come on by before the tournament. its easy..just talk to residents about how much fun you are having playing pickleball. No public speaking experience required!

Several members have indicated they would like to form a Sunday evening mixed doubles league. If you are interested in playing please email your interest to president@wbvpickleballclub.org. Format is yet to be determined, but teams do not have to be husband and wife.
