We are holding our first blood drive of 2017 on Tuesday March 14th from 9am to 2pm in the Vistas Ballroom. We are hoping to have every available donor and every member of the Pickle Ball Club become involved in our event by attempting to give blood, encourage a friend or neighbor to give, help contact donors, or bake a treat for donors to enjoy at our event
The qualifications to give blood are simple: a donor must weigh at least 110 lbs, must be at least 16 years old, must be feeling well and healthy (no flu like symptoms), and we will ask that every donor bring photo ID or you donor card to give. We will also ask you bring a list of current medications and places of travel in the past 12 months. For a full list of qualifications please follow this link: http://www.unitedbloodservices.org/pdf/BS300L-UBS.pdf
We encourage donors to set appointment times to give so we can accurately plan for your participation. You can set an appointment by calling Mark Van Hoesen at 623-695-4925 or at the following link:
Every day there is a need for 500 people to give blood statewide, just to keep pace with current blood needs for local hospitals. One donation can potentially help multiple hospital patients. As of this morning, there is a blood shortage of less than a one day supply for 4 out of the 8 blood types. Due to this shortage there are 62 orders of blood for local hospitals that remain unfilled. A successful blood drive at Westbrook Village can eliminate the shortage of unfilled blood orders for local patients in need. Just for Phoenix Children’s Hospital over 1000 units are needed every month.
