Pickleball Outs:
Blood Drive
The Pickleball Club sponsored its second blood drive. Thank you to all who donated their time and blood. We had a total of 30 donors. A special thanks to Mark Van Hoesen for organizing the drive.
The next drive is tentatively scheduled for November 7th.
The Golden Geezers
The Golden Geezers sponsored their first annual couples dinner on Feb 18th at the Links Restaurant. 68 people attended. A great time was had by all.
The Geezers have brightened the day of over 20 women for a variety of reasons since January through their Rose distribution program. Don’t forget to contact Marc Parenteau ( if you know of a woman and circumstance that might warrant one.
Volunteer Projects
In February, a collection of paper goods and cleaning products was taken up at the women’s social play to be donated to the Singleton Moms sponsored by the W.O.W. (Women of Westbrook) group. In addition, several of the club women volunteered their time on a project targeted to help save our adolescents from a life of prostitution (S.O.A.P) on Mar 18th. They labeled bars of soap with a hotline number to get help, attended a brief training, and then the bars of soap were being distributed to high risk motels during the Final Four Basketball Tournament. Thank you Teasie Colla and Lois Kumerow for organizing this activity.
In 2017, the Training team provided lessons to 249 participants from the Village and Club which resulted in 27 new club members.
A Training Clinic was offered to the Tennis Club members and then opened up to Pickleball members to continue to hone their skills on Mar 22 and 29. Thank you to Ray Thompson, Phil Ash, Liz Lage, Diane Doerschel, and Mike Pesile
St Patrick’s Day Tournament
On March 26th, we held a “late” St. Paddy’s Day Tournament. Over 73 members participated in the play with approximately 100 in attendance. Thank you to John Bauernfeind and Diane Durnell and their well-oiled teams for putting on such a flawless tournament. Everything went off like clockwork.
